Unnithan Episode and the Moralistic Mobocracy in Kerala

A recent story from Kerala as reported by the Malayalam press and electronic media should perhaps remind us the need to uphold the Constitution of India Against Moralistic Terror

Just look at the horror stories in the media which tell us that Rajmohan Unnithan (a Congress leader) was caught for being in the company of a woman in a rented house. The local people led by DYFI and PDP activists surrounded the house and they summoned the police to stop the alleged ’anaashasyam…’. Police have reportedly booked Unnithan and the owner of the house for committing/abetting ‘anasaasyam’.
Don’t ask neither the media nor the police what is the section under which the case is booked here, though we are expected to assume that the crime as defined in the statute book is about racketeering on women by third parties with motivation for profit, is invoked. But this is routinely done by the police and an overenthusiastic moral brigade cutting across political spectrums from far right to left to ‘feminists’(?), in all cases of extra marital relationships.
‘Anaasasyam’ literally means undesirable activity, and in the common parlance, it simply means extra marital sex even with mutual consent! It is also among the most favourite items that make news for the evening dailies in every small/big town in Kerala.
Several pro CPM womens’ activists indeed did loudly protest the act of ’anaashasyam’ by a Congress leader…
(According to their logic, women in such cases can neither have the agency nor claims to rights as subjects. They are invariably seen as just the victims of ‘sthreepeedanam’, which means ‘harassment of women’ by a capitalist and sex tourism-oriented racket.
These protesters would have cared a damn for communal profiling of Muslims and dalits as terrorists.
It is no wonder, neither the Mangalore pub attack nor the cultural policing campaign by Sri Ram Sene was unequivocally condemned by the Kerala Leftists and the ’affiliated feminists’!

of course, everyone have their own personal life, are the politician not human beings?

Why we hunt them. and it's not yet sure if any thing immoral happened there. or even if there is 'something' , why media concern over this?
even left feminist was there to protest!!!
beyond feminism they have political agenda. and they are just only a tool in politicians hand.

it's surely a Moralistic Terror!!

Meadia should not waist time on these kind of things. Meadia can do so many good things. Seeing a man with an woman is not a crime. We cannot stop this kind of things. How can anybody say that some thing wrong happened.

You are correct about the selective reaction of the left organisation regarding social victimisation of certain section.

But, unnithaan affair is not a simple private or personal affair as somebody here commented. He is a leader. These kind of affairs (if nobody rein it.) will destroy the social fabric of the society. The basic of which is family. When no body knows it it is morality matter of the person involved. When it becomes a public it have to be stopped.

This is the moral obligation of society and media to expose such undesirable things.Today one Unnithan and tomorrow somebody else. It should not be encouraged.

Despite admitting the fact that the Social ethics in a society needs to be maintained, especially in a country like India, where we ourself are (or boast) proud of our rich heritage in this regard, one shud not overluk the 'moral policing' of the so-called moral brigrade- undoubtedly infringing the moral rights of an indivial & morover his private life in the society.
Hence, the "Unnithan' episode too needs to viewed in this context.
Issues need to be viewed on it's merit - case by case rather than the 'voyerestic' public attitiude of we malayalis

If media did overstep in this case, why it's not mentioned the "terror hunting" of kerala medias.
Is it to be encouraged in a democratic country?
What they are doing? they are blindly shooting and targeting a community.
Is it not "media terror"

There is no moral policing in this issue. If there is a house/apartment neighbouring to your house and if you happen to find unusual activities going on there, you and your neighbours will try to check it. Otherwise, it will slowly become a den/hub of anti-socials, and it will create a situation that the grown-up females in the neighbourhood, including your wife and daughters will find it difficult to move around. In the beginning it will be during the dusk and night, later on during daytime and gradually all people irrespective of gender (gender justice!) will have to face embarrasing and threatening situations. Therefore, if a house is suspected to house possible sex racket or extremist activities, the people in the neighbourhood will certainly try to know what is going on. That is what happened in Manjeri. Can you place your hand on your chest and say you will not do it and try to dissuade people from doing so? (you could possibly learn some human right lessons yourself, in that case) If this is what you call moral policing then you'll yell that Teddy bear has tried to kill you and when bear comes you will hide underneath your cot... God save you
